Moody Eva

 Moody Eva

Eva Irwin, otherwise known as Moody Eva, has been playing records since 1993. Her friend, DJ Greed, showed her to the turntables when she was 16.  She picked it up right away, started collecting records, and was a closet dj for years. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, she raved full time from 1994-1996.  She spent many nights breakdancing and enjoying what she considers to be the "golden age" of dance music in SF.

In 1997, she moved to Hawaii and realized she was the only female DJ living on the island and got gigs almost immediately.  She played 4 nights a week and at 2 afterhours clubs for 3 years straight under the DJ name "Evil-lyn".

Moving back to SF (changing her Dj name to Moody Eva) in 2001, she was instantly made General Manager of LiveDJs.com, a 24-hour live online DJs-mixing-live streaming website. When the ".com" bubble busted... she started GoodBeats.com and used the site to help and promote her DJ friends who she believed in.   Later that same year, she learned how to produce music.  Since 2001 she has released a total of 8 songs and licensed 4 of them. Her labels include Big Popsicle, Undercover, Blunted Funk, and Blunted Breaks.

From 2001 to 2004 Eva was flying to gigs twice a month ...  Belgium, Taiwan, Chicago, New York, Hawaii .... and not to mention playing every major and underground club in San Francisco 2-3 times a week. Her website, GoodBeats.com started a record label that she co-founded called Big Popsicle. Of the 5 four-track EP records they put out, 4 of them sold out and are now hard-to-find vinyl.

In 2004, she moved to San Diego, bought Pro Tools, and started making more beats than ever before. For years, she found herself not enjoying the music she was hearing when she went out to clubs and undergrounds. In March 2006 she came back from WMC (completely inspired) and decided she couldn't take one more bad event with bad music. Because of this profound musical epiphany ... she stopped going out, and started podcasting.

Because of this profound musical epiphany ... she stopped going out, and started podcasting.

During that time from 2006 - 2007 she mixed for an hour a day for 10 months straight and released over 30 unedited 1 hour podcasts.... every 3-7 days for almost a year.  In less than 6 months from starting her podcast, she had 800 subscribers and her podcast was downloaded on average 30 times a day.  Her ability to record and release a new mix almost weekly completely set her apart from most DJs. Gavin Hardkiss licensed one of her songs in late 2006 for his "san francisco loft party" mix CD that was released nationally.

In 2008 she stopped DJing to give all her energy to singing vocals and production.  Focusing on just making music inspired her to finish an album that was 7 years in the making.  Now that the album is done she is about to roll up her sleeves and dive back into djing.  Eva has been a DJ for almost 17 years and can't wait to show the "best coast" what the fuck is up.  Watch out San Francisco... the bitch is back.

Look for her album "Finishing School" ...  out on Sleevin Records.
