“The Land of The Monkey Snake” marks officially the second compilation in Lee Coombs discography. The first being “Perfecto Breaks Presents Lee Coombs”, which gave the world a further taste of Lee’s tribal breaks and acid house sound, following the success of his “Future Sound of Retro” artist release on Fingerlickin in 2002. “The Land of The Monkey Snake” was inspired after Lee’s DJing at the 2005 Burning Man festival in the Nevada Desert. The mass spectacle of people gathered together in the desert like a tribal community, living for a week with nothing but themselves, a few possessions, and music was the inspiration for the hard driving raw power of this compilation. Exclusive tracks and sought after edits of Lee’s Freaks “Creeps”, Rich Thair’s “Bell134”, as well as collaborations with Meat Katie, D. Ramirez and Milke, combined with Lee’s flawless mixes, take you on a journey of deep twisted acid and electro grooves.

Lee Coombs began his career in the acid house parties in and around London and Cambridge. He went on to run his own labels Thrust and and Zoid Recordings. The release of “Future Sound of Retro” was praised by fans and fellow DJs alike. Seb Fontaine and Pete Tong noted Coombs as the “man to watch” with the release of the album in 2001. His remixes of Quivver and Sister Bliss had New Order, Moby and Lamb all lining up at Lee’s door for a reworking of their tracks by Coombs’ masterful touch. Lee released his Perfecto breaks album to critical acclaim shortly thereafter, followed by his first artist release “Breakfast of Champions”, which went straight to number 1 in the DJ Mag Beats & Breaks Chart.

Worldwide touring, residencies in San Francisco, work through his label Thrust Recordings, his regular internet radio show and pod casts on San Francisco’s Frisky Radio, as well as his continued remixing work has brought Lee worldwide acclaim for his brand of distinctive Acid-House take on Breakbeat.

This compilation is really a tribute to his second home. “I feel a strong connection to the San Francisco vibe and this CD is the spirit of San Fran,” says Lee. “It’s underground Acid House, music that makes me tick. The Monkey Snake album is totally inspired by San Fran and Burning Man – it’s all about capturing the vibe and free spirit of it all.”

Lee continues to move forward with his sound, never losing touch with his early musical inspirations from the early Chicago House of Trax and the emerging rave scene of the time. We hear these influences on tracks like “Right Side of Wrong”, Lee’s update of Red Snapper Richard Thair’s “Bell 134”, Klaus Heavyweight Hill’s “Foreplay”, Digital Breaks Foundation’s warped “Way Back” and Lee’s own track “Out of My Mind.”
